Leveling a Survival Hunter in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (Cata) involves a combination of effective talent selection, gear choices, rotation optimization, and general leveling strategies. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you level your Survival Hunter efficiently:

1. Talent Tree and Glyphs

Talent Tree: Focus on the following talents as you level up:

Level 10-14:

  • 3/3 Hunter vs. Wild: Increases your total stamina by 10%.
  • 2/2 Pathing: Increases your ranged attack speed by 2%.

Level 15-19:

  • 3/3 Improved Serpent Sting: Your Serpent Sting also increases your ranged attack power by 30% of the damage done by Serpent Sting.

Level 20-24:

  • 2/2 Survival Tactics: Reduces the cooldown of Disengage by 4 sec and reduces the chance your traps will be resisted by 4%.

Level 25-29:

  • 3/3 Thrill of the Hunt: You have a 6% chance when you use an Arcane Shot, Explosive Shot, or Black Arrow to regain 40% of the cost of the shot.

Level 30-34:

  • 2/2 Counterattack: A melee ability that becomes active after parrying, dealing damage and immobilizing the target.

Level 35-39:

  • 3/3 Lock and Load: You have a 100% chance when you trap a target with Freezing Trap or Frost Trap to cause your next 2 Explosive Shots or Black Arrows to cost no Focus and trigger no cooldown.

Level 40-44:

  • 2/2 T.N.T.: Increases the damage done by your Immolation Trap, Explosive Trap, and Explosive Shot by 12%.

Level 45-49:

  • 3/3 Resourcefulness: Reduces the cooldown of your traps and Black Arrow by 6 sec and reduces the cost of your traps, Black Arrow, and Explosive Shot by 30%.

Level 50-54:

  • 1/1 Wyvern Sting: A sting that puts the target to sleep for 30 seconds. Any damage will awaken the target.

Level 55-59:

  • 3/3 Noxious Stings: Increases your damage done on targets afflicted by your Serpent Sting by 10%.

Level 60-64:

  • 2/2 Point of No Escape: Increases the critical strike chance of all of your attacks on targets affected by your Ice Trap, Freezing Trap, and Freezing Arrow by 6%.

Level 65-69:

  • 3/3 Master Tactician: Your successful ranged attacks have a 6% chance to increase your critical strike chance with ranged attacks by 10% for 8 sec.

Level 70-74:

  • 1/1 Hunting Party: Increases your Agility by 2% and increases the ranged and melee attack speed of all party and raid members by 10% for 30 sec after you critically hit with Arcane Shot, Explosive Shot, or Black Arrow.

Level 75-79:

  • 2/2 Serpent Spread: Causes your Multi-Shot to also apply Serpent Sting to targets.

Level 80:

  • 1/1 Black Arrow: Fires a Black Arrow at the target, dealing Shadow damage over 20 seconds and increasing all damage done by you to the target by 6%.

Glyphs:

Prime Glyphs:

  • Glyph of Explosive Shot: Increases the critical strike chance of Explosive Shot by 6%.
  • Glyph of Serpent Sting: Increases the damage dealt by Serpent Sting by 10%.
  • Glyph of Kill Shot: Reduces the cooldown of Kill Shot by 6 sec.

Major Glyphs:

  • Glyph of Mending: Increases the healing done by your Mend Pet ability by 60%.
  • Glyph of Disengage: Reduces the cooldown of Disengage by 5 sec.
  • Glyph of Freezing Trap: Increases the duration of the Freezing Trap effect by 2 sec.

Minor Glyphs:

  • Glyph of Feign Death: Reduces the cooldown of Feign Death by 5 sec.
  • Glyph of Mend Pet: Your Mend Pet spell cleanses 1 Curse, Disease, Magic, or Poison effect from your pet each tick.
  • Glyph of Revive Pet: Reduces the pushback suffered from damaging attacks while casting Revive Pet by 100%.

2. Gear Selection

  • Agility is your primary stat as it increases your attack power and critical strike chance.
  • Hit Rating: Ensure you reach the hit cap to prevent your attacks from missing.
  • Critical Strike and Haste are also valuable stats for increasing your DPS.

3. Rotation

Single Target:

  • Keep Serpent Sting up on the target.
  • Use Black Arrow on cooldown.
  • Use Explosive Shot on cooldown.
  • Use Arcane Shot as a filler when you have excess Focus.
  • Use Kill Shot when the target is below 20% health.
  • Use Cobra Shot to regenerate Focus.

AOE:

  • Use Multi-Shot to apply Serpent Sting to multiple targets (via Serpent Spread).
  • Use Explosive Trap for additional AOE damage.
  • Continue using Cobra Shot for Focus regeneration.

4. General Leveling Tips

  • Keep your pet happy and well-fed to maintain high damage output.
  • Quest efficiently: Focus on quests in the same area to minimize travel time.
  • Use dungeons and battlegrounds: These can provide significant experience and gear upgrades.
  • Stay rested: Log out in an inn or city to gain rested experience, which doubles the experience you earn from killing monsters.
  • Use Heirlooms: If available, use Heirloom gear to boost your experience gain and improve your stats.

5. Pet Choice

  • Ferocity pets are generally best for leveling due to their damage output. Consider pets like Cats, Raptors, or Wolves.
  • Tenacity pets can be useful if you need a tanky companion for tougher quests or elite mobs.

By following these guidelines, you should be able to level your Survival Hunter efficiently and enjoyably in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.
